Marvel manipulation and the Captain America movie …

Published by dreamscaper under Uncategorized Edit This

I recently came across a site where someone was speculating on the idea of Marvel ramping up the amount of comics being published that contain stories about Captain America’s exploits during World War II.  One reason given for this was that with the title character recently deceased in his own comic book, there was a need to replace the obvious void of new stories featuring that incarnation of the character (Steve Rogers) with stories set in the characters past.  The suggestion was made however, that this was not the only reason for the increase in WWII Cap stories: it was also suggested that Marvel might be trying to lay the ground work for getting its fanbase to accept the idea of Captain America stories set during Wartime as  being one of the accepted norms for the  foreseeable future.

Why this concern?

It was further suggested that with the future Captain America movie being set during WW II, Marvel wants its fanbase to be open to this decision to go with a period piece instead of simply having the character only being depicted in modern day.  I don’t know if there is any real merit to this theory, but it does make me wonder just how concerned is Marvel about the success of the future Captain America film if it is in fact going to be mostly a period piece.  Time will tell, I guess.
